Recent News January 2017Akron's Water Supply Plant at Lake Rockwell Reservoir was awarded the Ohio EPA Encouraging Environmental Excellence Award. The Akron plant earned the award because of accomplishments in energy efficiency, reuse of industrial waste and paper waste reduction measures. Find out more here. October 2016The Akron Bio Investment Fund now provides funding opportunities for Cleantech and Water Technology companies. The fund provides a total of $1.75 Million of available funding to Cleantech and Water Technology companies. In addition to this funding, companies are eligible to apply for space and managment support in the Akron Global Business Accelerator, as well as for testing of their technologies within the Akron Water System. September 2016Akron Global Water Alliance team members attended WEFTEC 2016 in New Orleans between September 24 and 28. AGWA is a regular attendee at WEFTEC. May 2016The City of Akron and the Akron Global Water Alliance hosted The US Algal Toxin Conference 2016 on May 9-11, 2016 at the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio. The Conference featured updates and presentations from the US and Ohio EPAs, Utilities, Water Engineering firms and Consultancies, Operators, Scientists and Innovators from across the USA and across the world. November 2015Akron Global Water Alliance exhibited and conducted meetings at Aquatech 2015, the biannual Water Technology event, held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The Netherlands Water Alliance is a recognized partner of AGWA and works with the Dutch Water Technology sector in technology exchange and testing. October 2015Akron Global Water Alliance exhibited and conducted meetings at WATEC 2015, the biannual Water Technology event, held in Tel Aviv, Israel. AGWA is a recognized partner of Mekorot, the Israeli national water carrier and regularly conducts projects between Israeli water companies and Akron. March 2015Akron and Israel Deal Brings Israeli Advanced Waste Water Project to Akron.A new initiative between the City of Akron and the State of Israel will further develop Akron’s position as a leader in the global water industry. The City of Akron will be the exclusive North American government partner and location for Israel’s effort to bring cutting edge water technologies to the U.S. marketplace through an “Advanced Waste Water Treatment Demonstration Project.” Learn more. February 2015The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recognized the Akron Global Water Alliance (AGWA) as a water technology cluster following the launch of the Akron Global Water Alliance. This is an important distinction, and one that is shared among only 13 other organizations nationwide. While the clusters are not affiliated directly with EPA, the federal organization works to support their efforts in the environmental technology field as these clusters may play valuable roles in the future of the U.S. Learn more. October 2014 The Akron Global Water Alliance (AGWA) officially launched in late October during an international event at the University of Akron. The two day event brought together more than 100 colleagues from the world's leading engineering and environmental firms alongside the Mayor of Akron and members of the City of Akron’s Economic Development and Water Departments, the University of Akron, the Akron Global Business Accelerator, Akron City Council and Summit County Council. Representatives were present at the event from other notable organizations and countries that include Israel, the Netherlands and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Learn more.
